i actually wished people a happy father's day this year. My brother, and Geo, because of Rowan.

it was kinda nice.

I'm happy having a niece. it helps that she's beautiful, and has a full head of hair, which transmutes a suspicious lump of meat into a little person. she laughs, too. rarely cries. (partly because she follows a schedule, and if you have the bottle ready when she's about to be hungry, it derails the cryin' train. partly just because she's a sweetie.) i still find her spitting up disconcerting, but i have vomit issues. if you vomit in front of me, i will probably vomit. it's like the yawning thing, but much messier. and she is smart. i can see it in her leetle eyes. she knows what radios are (two-way) it's just that she can't talk and her hands are too weak to push the button.

Liam reads her stories from Stanislaw Lem's Cyberiad, and i really liked the one he read her while she frantically tried to roll over. once rolled over, she mostly wiggles, but she's working on it.

someday she's going to start talking. and she's gonna be a person. a little one. with a brain and a spirit and the capacity to alter the world.

it's kinda scary. makes me smile, though.

so. mgg is vegetarian again. but she craves tuna. this is acceptable. tuna are hideous beasts whose only purpose is to be painfully beaten, slaughtered and eaten.

tuna is reincarnated rapists.

it is your karmic duty to make sure tuna suffer.

mgg doesn't believe me, and so she will not eat tuna.

but i know. that's why i'm having tuna salad with lettuce, provalone and bacon.

i feel bad for the piggy though. he's just too tasty.

found through [livejournal.com profile] takhisis, Nice Hair, a goth webcomic about Tim, Neil, Rob and Andy. well, also Jack, the gay pirate under Timmy's bed.

any resemblance between characters and persons living or dead is purely coincidental. really.

As momus said:

"What are you up to, Nick?

Well, I'm trying to reconcile ostranenie with the uncanny and anti-rockism with becoming."

really good essay, really good discussion in the comments.

nice ideas re: accretion and continuous change

nice little offhand unimportance of ownership jab.

good stuff.
