soooo. Homo floresiensis. tiny folk. i now have the time article, the science new article, the letter to nature, and the article in nature.

unfortunately, i do not yet have training that will help me understand "Petrous pyramid smooth, tubular and with low relief, styloid process absent, and without vaginal crest." it has something to do with it's cranium.

it is very interesting that it has such a tiny brain (380 cc, which is equal to the minimum for Australopithecus) and seems to have manufactured tools, and not just simple flakes, but stuff like a perforator, which requires thought about what you want to make and many individual steps.

also, yes, i like the idea of hobbits hunting water-buffalo-sized elephants. and giant rats. and komodo dragons.

by the way, that is a 'seems to' have made artefacts. and they seem to have used fire too. which is neat.

and it really is a massive thing to have another hominid alive after neanderthal died out. and, well, yeah.

that's about it. i need to actually read the articles.

i came to school early today because i thought i had work. i did not.

oh, and i suppose it's obligatory that i mention the election in some way. 45,000 for kerry, 16,000 bush in boulder county. also: i swing between carefully constructed oblivion, sadness, anger, and my "okay, in 2 years i'll have a bachelors and mgg'll have her masters and then we can move to canada" thing. and 11 states need to be purged.

last night on the daily show jon stewart shouted "I'm a Blue Stater, baby!"
he seems very frustrated.

also. arafat, apparently, is not dead. they had a little press conference, where his spokesman said "Mister Arafat is not dead. Thank you." and left. it was the moment of zen. i was amused.
