d) are tempurpedic beds actually that good? not that i can afford one, so it'll just make me sad to know that they are fantastic. and jealous.

The scandal at Abu Ghraib prison was first exposed not by a digital photograph but by a letter. In December 2003, a woman prisoner inside the jail west of Baghdad managed to smuggle out a note. Its contents were so shocking that, at first, Amal Kadham Swadi and the other Iraqi women lawyers who had been trying to gain access to the US jail found them hard to believe.

The note claimed that US guards had been raping women detainees, who were, and are, in a small minority at Abu Ghraib. Several of the women were now pregnant, it added. The women had been forced to strip naked in front of men, it said. The note urged the Iraqi resistance to bomb the jail to spare the women further shame.

tornado

“Do you think we might want to go to the basement?”

“Dou you want to go to the basement? We can if you’re nervous.”

Frankly, yes, I am a bit nervous. Radio said a tornado touched down a few miles away, this is the worst storm I’ve ever seen in my life.

Several minutes ago, lightning struck the tree out front. The thing that stuck was not the light (blinding), not the crack of thunder (deafening), but how the window bowed in slightly. I associate windows bulging with huge explosions and skyscrapers, not gin rummy.

There appears to be a cow in the yard. Fence must’ve come down. Turned out that the roof off of a shed, belonging to the people across the way, had lifted off, flown a few hundred feet, and taken out a chunk of fence. Now, all I know is that there is a cow in the yard, lightning everywhere, visibility is 30 feet, so maybe there are many cows in the yard, and Grandmothermom is completely unfazed.

“No, if you think we’ll be okay…”

“Gin.”

It’s not that she was foolhardy, she just never panicked. She knew we’d be fine.
